Otago PENinsula ARTists
Artist – Weaver – Gardener!
Cynthia (Cindy) lives in Broad Bay, and has been a 'local' for a considerable period of time!
I have my own small studio at 18 Waikana Street – on the corner of of Clearwater and Waikana, and I have this open to the Public most days from 10:00am to 5:00 pm.
These days, I share the space with my neighbour Roger Weston – Artist – Poet – Novelist.
Weaving is my love!
I studied weaving in Nelson at Focle' Weaver and was tutored by the well known weavers Nancy Mason and Pat Wilkinson.
After many years of weaving I decided to try my hand at painting, and have – for many years been tutored by well known Dunedin Artist Erin Anson, and I would now have to confess, that my painting is a very close second to my weaving! So I move from one media to another and enjoy both the journeys!
I have been a member of the Otago Art Society, and I have exhibited widely throughout New Zealand, and am currently resident artist at the Makaroa Tourist Centre 30 miles up the West Coast Road from Wanaka, in Central Otago, a truly inspirational environment for both my weaving and painting.
I love colour, I love the fabulous environment we live in, and I try to depict this in both my painting and my weaving “pictures”.
I hope my works – my weaving patterns, and my paintings reflect my love of this.
I also have a small nursery on my Broad Bay property, where anyone can come and buy potted exotic, and native plants, another of my loves – plants and nature!
Even though I have been here a long time, I feel privileged to live in such a beautiful place – Broad Bay! It is one of those 'special' places on the Otago Peninsula.
